Are LED Pool Lights Worth the Money?

LED_GloBrite_pool

There are tons of options for you when you are deciding on building your new inground pool and you need to decide on what is an option and what is something that should be done right away?

Pool lighting falls in both categories of doing right away and as a later option.  You need to put the lights in right away so they are in the pool wall, however you can upgrade to colored lighting in the future.

Energy Savings & Durability

An LED light will save you roughly 75% on your energy usage compared to a comparable incandescent light. REMEMBER, that LED pool lights cost more, on average, than a simple incandescent light so your cost savings will not start till you recoup the additional money that you spent on the LED lights. Are LED Pool Lights Worth the Monty Waukesha

LED pool lights last a lot longer than a standard light. Traditional bulb pool lights will last around 5,000 hours while an LED light will last 30,000+ hours . . . provided no water gets in and shorts the unit out.

Cool Factor

LED lights make it very easy to add color to your pool lights. Provided you the niches (device that holds your light in the pool wall) you can swap out white LED or white incandescent lights to color changing LED lights. These lights are generally controlled by an automation system so that you can select the color you want, typically there are 5 solid color selections and 7 pre-programmed light sequences to select from.

These lights can be swapped out by any inground pool builder that does swimming pool services.

Safety Aspects

Many of the LED pool lights on the market come in both line voltage and low voltage options these days. Inground pool builders are starting to move to low voltage LED lights as they are easier to install, have less liability and give the same functionality as their older line voltage counterparts.

At the end of the day, most inground pool builders are moving toward LED pool lights as a standard for all new inground pool builds.  We recommend them, even if you aren’t getting them with the color changing options. As always, make sure to get multiple pool quotes and make sure your inground pool builders do swimming pool services as they will be more informed.
